Powdered medicine to treat Cocci

Stock Solution formula
Use 1 envelope of powdered Sulfamethazine per gallon of water to make a ‘stock solution’ or select a gallon of it pre-mixed. The sulfamethazine can be any brand, Albon, Fort Dodge, generic, etc…. Keep the stock solution in a cupboard, paper bag, or in the basement, because once it is mixed, it light sensitive.

Stock/Omega3 Solution Recipe
1 part Sulfamethazine stock solution (sulfadimethoxine)
1 part Omega3 (you can use honey, karo syrup, or Omega3 also)
Mix well in a plastic jar, add a little water if necessary to thin for oral drenching syringe.
Drench each goat with the appropriate amount per weight, for 6 consecutive days. Double the amount on the Day 1 only.

How much per goat?
Day One of Treatment, goat gets 1cc of stock solution per lb
Example - a 30lb goat is going to get 60ccs of the stock/Omega3 solution
(Equivalent of 30cc Sulfamethazine, 30cc Omega3 mixed)
Day Two – Day 6, goat gets 1/5cc of stock solution per lb
Example - a 30 lb goat is going to get 30ccs of the stock/Omega3 solution
(Equivalent of 15cc Sulfamethazine, 15cc Omega3 mixed)

Cocci must be treated for 6 consecutive days.

The sulfamethazine treats cocci. The Omega3 makes it taste good, so by the 6th day they are glad to see you coming with the oral syringe.

Coccidiosis is usually a problem only for 'kids'. Adult goats can be carriers but do not usually get sick from it. Kids can die quickly from Cocci, or unthrifty if not treated in a timely fashion.
